Maiko
These sublime photos of Maikos, apprentice Geishas from Kyoto, come courtesy of an amazing Italian blog called Occhidaorientale. I am unable to translate it! Please just feast your eyes on them as any description from me would no doubt be redundant.

So beautiful! I love Japanese culture, I'm glad that a lot of the traditions are being continued!
ReplyDeleteI agree. Japan seems almost schizophrenic in its respect for the traditional and its off-the-wall Manga culture etc. I was dressed in a traditional kimono in Tokyo once.. I think I will have to write about it. Quite an experience.
ReplyDeleteI love these images. BBC4 is doing a great season on Japan at the moment and there is a lovely programme on the Maiko - here's a link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0074s37/Geisha_Girl/ only for people in the uk sadly...... :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for blogging my photos. I would appreciate it if you could link to the originals:
