What a Pill

The artist Grayson Perry in his motorcycle leathers.

I can't say I'm not always pleased and flattered to get a comment on my blog.  The latest was in response to an old post entitled The Transvestite Artist and the Harley Salesman and  I read it with mounting pleasure:  'I liked this blog, is very interesting and wonderful. It catched my attention since the first time that i saw it,that because it´s very entertainment.I feel happy when i reache what i am looking for,like...

when i buy viagra the result is really great.' (Linked to a site selling the stuff)

Oh f*** off, do.

Wondering if anyone else has received stealth merchandising like this?  I am constantly bombarded with offers of penis enhancement but they go straight into my, erm, spam.

  1. Great picture!! I took the word recognition off the comments on my blog and I've had a few of the same. Oddly it seems to be on the same old post. I used to get hundreds a day in my inbox but luckily they all go through my spam filter now too. Do you think anyone actually buys them? Hope you're well Rose xx

  2. Hi Christina. Thank you for that - very interesting. Yes, I took the word recognition code thingy off my blog quite a long time ago because it just makes it easier for everyone. So this is my first 'spam' comment. I will see if I get any more before I put the code word back again.

I guess more people than you think buy viagra. Whether they need the penis enhancement first, I don't know..

Nice to hear from you again. I am off to visit YOU now!

  4. Yes yes yes. I get them on my blog every day! And no, I don't have word recognition- I think it's a pain, so I figured I'd do my readers a favor and moderate the comments instead. It's a shame, but I've become pretty good at it. I'm like a stealth spam-killer, I can smell it from a mile away. Even when they do tricky things like put giant spaces before the 7 paragraphs of links.

Holy cow, is that a leather jumpsuit?? It's pretty glorious. Wonder if he ever goes out in it...

  5. I used to get spam on the blog but since word recognition it rarely happens. Today, oddly enough, I got an email purporting to be from a friend that at first took me in then I say the bad spelling, bad grammar and an imbedded link. In the trash it went! I've had offers of sex toys supposedly from people in my blogroll so god knows what is being sold in my name.

  6. I get a little bit of the "dick pills" spam, but not nearly so much as I get searches for "equine penis pictures", or as it's usually spelled, "Hors erection cock". Sheesh. You post one picture of a dangly mule and Google sends half the population of South Carolina to your door.

  7. Yes I had one or two, (not for Viagra or penis enlargement), but they looked innocuous enough, (the comments), and then when you click on the name you are either re-directed to the product or to a website advertising something or other. There is a Chinese spammer whom I also deleted a couple of times, but a number of people seem to keep, because they have no idea what it says. Deletion seems to stop them, as they have to be applied manually.

  8. Lauren and Blue - thanks for making me realise I'm not alone with my viagra salesman RCLV fan. Blue, it's really unnerving when the spammers use a friend's name. I was amazed when my cousin wrote out of nowhere to tell me about the new mobile phone she'd bought..

Lauren, oh yes I am sure Grayson Perry wears that suit on his Harley. Actually he says in his memoir that his wife had it made for him as a birthday present. And if he habitually goes out dressed as a five year old girl,I'm sure wearing the phallic leathers causes him no embarrassment either. Do have a look at that post I referred to if you are not familiar with his performance art.

  9. He does look such a dick, if you'll pardon the expression.

  10. Well whatever your filter is it's obviously very efficient. I sent a comment yesterday, and it doesn't appear to have been posted. Or maybe you didn't like it?! (Unlikely, although it did mention Viagra, and penis enlargement...)

  11. Yes! interesting the blogs that do not have comments moderation or word rec- Get these automatically published. Yesterday-I had commented on a blog with none of the above, and got about 10 Viagra follow up comments or worse. If I keep getting them as CL says on the same post over and over-I will remove the comments Allowed part of the post. Viva Viagra(that you likely have not encountered-but a GREAT BIG commercial in the States singing this tune to ELVIS' Viva Las Vegas (you have to be here)but most amusing I guess It captures the attention of 9 year olds-My friend's son picked it up and started singing it around the house. She let it go-hoping this too shall pass. Gaye

  12. Oh no, I didn't know those things got published automatically. I shall continue to monitor the situation!

  13. Rosie, Yours will be fine because you are moderating the comments- Safe from the erectile dysfunction bandit- It is only the Unmoderated comments that have auto publishing that get tagged! pgt

  15. I used to get about 20 a day -seriously - until I turned on the dreaded word recognition. I noticed the amount of comments I got decreased a bit (I hate doing them too so I understand!) but my life is much better! I don't need viagra (yet) and my breasts are fine as they are ;-)

  16. Hi Rose... I used to get about a dozen or more a day. I didn't have word verification on and only moderated comments older than two weeks. Since I turned WV on, the stupid comments have all but disappeared. There are the strange ones, where English isn't the first language, and if you click on the commenter's name, it's spam. But they're few and far between. Funnily, I got more for pre-written term papers than for Viagra.
