I nearly drowned off the NC coast near Wilmington during hurricane Andrew. We arrived at the beach before the warning markers were up and had no idea the hurricane was twenty miles offshore. Got caught in a rip tide. The lifeguard who finally pulled me in said he nearly turned back because he was terrified. Later that day we learned another swimmer on a small inflatable raft had been spotted and picked up by a coast guard helicopter some sixteen miles off the coast. We had originally intended to go swimming on uninhabited and lifeguard deficient Masonboro island. Maybe there is a god who looks after dummies.
Who would have looked after the mules? Now if you had brought them down for a swim too, they would have sensed the oncoming hurricane. But that sounds horrific. I love the sea but it scares me more the older I get.
I think the peacock? blue curtain is gorgeous. Perfect color palate. la
ReplyDeleteThanks la. Or is it petrol blue? Or is that petrel, the bird? I never knew.
