On My First Birthday..

I interview myself ...

Well done Rosie, you didn't throw in the sponge like you normally do

I know I can't believe I'm still here

Why do you keep blogging?

Because it gives me an excuse to sit up till 2 am running my global personality cult from my kitchen

So, the name Rose C'est La Vie - what's all that about?

As I mentioned at the beginning, it's a smartass pun on Marcel Duchamp's alter ego Rrose Sélavy. In turn it was his wordplay on 'Eros c'est la vie'.  But I decided not to major on the erotic, tempting as it was.  I'll never be as alluring as her though!

How did you start off?

I just plunged in with a couple of posts about the joy of opera gloves here and here

What sort of stuff do you write about?

Art, style, name-dropping, my embarrassing moments, the occasional rant, nostalgia and more name-dropping.  And then I put up you-tube clips when I run out of ideas.

And possibly your best post?

Probably the one about the lifting of the ban on gay men and women serving in the Armed Forces. It had the warmest response and and seemed to resonate with some of my favourite readers.

What do you do when you're not blogging?

Oh don't.  It's embarrassing because I'm a massive time-waster. I ricochet around the blogosphere, I half-read books, draw pictures on my kitchen table and sometimes paint in my studio, try to avoid cooking and write a lot of emails.  Oh, and I am doing a course in 'sequential art' - drawing the graphic novel.  And attempting to make an illustrated catalogue raisonné of all the clothes I have ever owned.  I can't remember if I do anything that would generally be considered useful apart from looking after my adorable grandson who's three and ironing seven shirts a week.

How old are you?

Old enough to know better. And to remember the Beatles.

I'm getting bored now

Can I just give my Oscar speech?

Oh if you have to

I just want to thank all the other gorgeous bloggers who have put me on their favourites' list. Stefan of Architect Design was the first and rescued  me from oblivion.  Gaye Tapp of little augury has featured me an embarrassing number of times and I think everyone will agree what a generous spirit she is.  Then there are special mentions for old pals: Toby Worthington, Emily Evans Eerdmans, Home Before Dark, The Blue Remembered Hills and Rurritable. . sob sob .. all my lovely lovely sweet candy lambs out there!

I confess x 7

Many thanks to my supportive and generous blogging chum little augury for nominating me as one of her seven 'Kreatives'. This chain reaction in our galaxy of the blog universe is about to go critical as we all cite each other. Just as I was about to nominate The Blue Remembered Hills, Blue asked if he could nominate me. ahhh. For this reason, and being the killjoy I tend to be, I am only playing half the game by not passing on the baton. Meanwhile, I've been scratching my head to find the seven least incriminating things to say about myself.

I keep buying classical white china urns on ebay. And had an expensive Fornasetti habit.

I once said to the Duke of Edinburgh ‘Sir, you must have the most superb upper body strength.’

I have a hideously addictive personality and have wasted many hours of my life playing computer games. I once made a list of ‘A Hundred Better Things to Do Than Play Snood’. I badly need to do that again.

My style icon remains Jacqueline Kennedy (as opposed to Jackie O) since I like structure.

I like cryptic crosswords
My favourite clue was HI JKLMNO (5 ) the answer being water (H20)
I’m probably a bit of a smartass.

Before I was married I worked in the English law courts as a shorthand writer (stenographer)
My worst moment was having to read back all the evidence of a young woman who had been sexually assaulted by her employer, an elderly optician. It was deeply embarrassing.

I tend to feel very uncomfortable around diagonal stripes. Love diamonds and trellis work.

Auto Interview IV - I interview myself if you hadn't guessed.

Good Morning Rosie, Did you sleep well?
Yes thank you. I dreamt about a Guardian journalist but we kept our clothes on.

Phew.
I know.

How is Rose C’est La Vie going?
Not bad , bit of a time-suck.

What has it prevented you doing?
Playing Bejeweled. Actually it hasn’t, ouch.

Are you getting feedback now?
Yup, I have some stalwart readers and if only they could know how much I love them for it.

Any others?
Yes, yes. Brilliant.

Any Problems With the Technology?
Some malevolent spirit in the machine removed two pictures from my last post. And did you know that if you tinker about with a published post, the people who receive it by email get every amended version? Uh oh, my post Doctors & Nurses went under the knife half a dozen times. Sorry.

Why would you do that?
Too embarrassed to tell you. Ok, it was how to describe the hospital doctors. They went from gorgeous to fine to professional to concerned and back to gorgeous, dammit.

Have you stopped thinking about them now?
Almost

What are your most favourite posts?
The Oscar goes to the prolific An Aesthete’s Lament for including so many British luminaries, eccentrics, beauties, bad girls. Look to the right to see the rest of the list.

What’s The Way Ahead for Rose C’est La Vie?
More to do with the semiotics of dress phwarrrrgh. Seriously, a mixture of the frivolous and the more grown-up.

Have you organised meals for the weekend?
No.

Auto Interview No. 2

Hi Pompom, how's it going?

It's feeling good.  I'm now self-medicating with my blog instead of Battenberg cakes. I've got a few posts up here which has surprised me.

I'm confused about the Pompom thing

Me too, I got in a bit of a mess with the technology.  My original google account was Pompom but I've changed it to Rose C'est La Vie now, which seems sensible in the circumstances.  But pompom is one of my favourite words.

Have you got many subscribers?

No, not enough really. Well, if you don't count my loving family and a few pals. I need more.

Is the eclectic mix working?

I don't know. I panic sometimes but it's a reflection of my butterfly mind.  My life's mission statement has always been 'I was put on this earth to be enjoyed and not to be judged'  I didn't make that up and it's a bit of a cheek but what the hell.

Managed to fit the housework in around the blogging?

No.
